Norfolk Recovery Partnership launches

Norfolk Recovery Partnership (NRP) is now providing a new treatment and recovery service offering high quality, easily accessible help for people with drug and alcohol problems across the county.

NRP has been awarded a five-year contract to provide the fully integrated service for adults affected by drugs and alcohol from 1 April 2013. The partnership sees Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust and The Matthew Project provide joint services within the community, with RAPt (the Rehabilitation for Addicted Prisoners’ Trust) working within prisons at HMP Norwich, Wayland and Bure.

This is the first time services across the whole county have been provided by one partnership, in turn ensuring that people with drug and alcohol problems can access a fair, equitable and coordinated service, regardless of where they live.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training for SUNN Recovery Community

Mental health problems are extremely common and can affect people at any time of life in different ways. They affect not only individuals and their families, but friends, work colleagues and employers too. Many people feel ashamed or guilty when they find it hard to cope and suffer for a long time before they seek help. What we know is that people who have learnt a few simple ways to cope and who seek help quickly are much more likely to get back on their feet than those who tell themselves it will get better in time and ignore the signs.

Stories from the Edge

Stories from the Edge is an exciting new project that aims to promote the Recovery message across Norfolk. We are going to collect and edit a collection of stories, poems and images produced by people from the recovery community across Norfolk. We have decided to call the booklet Stories from the Edge. We hope to launch the book during June 2013 as part of the Recovery Month celebrations. We are keen to make this a very positive booklet that will give hope to others and reinforce the idea that recovery is possible for everyone. Needle exhange contract awarded

A new service coordinating needle exchange and supervised consumption services for substance misusers in Norfolk will start from October 2012.

East Coast Community Healthcare CIC has been awarded a three year contract by Norfolk County Councils Drug and Alcohol Partnership to coordinate needle exchange and supervised consumption services for adults affected by substance misuse from 1st October.

The services will be delivered out of pharmacies and specialist agencies and play an integral part in substance misusers being able to recover and successfully live drug free.

Tracy Cannell, Managing Director of East Coast Community Healthcare CIC, said: "We are delighted to be providing these specialist services to substance misusers across the county of Norfolk. We have listened to pharmacies whom will be delivering the majority of the services to ensure the service is easy to deliver and accessible to service users. The service will not only benefit substance misusers but will also protect the local community from the harm of drug related litter."

Supervised consumption enables the observation of the prescribed medication used to assist with recovery from drug problems, and prevents it from being used illegally.

Linda Offord, Joint Commissioning Officer for Norfolk Drug and Alcohol Partnership said: “For many substance misusers accessing services such as needle exchange may be the first time they are able to speak to a professional about the substance misuse problem, the service will also provide service users with information of where they can go to get further help.”
